Halloween may only be one night a year, but here in Memphis, the entire month of October is packed full of fun ways to celebrate with your family and friends! Whether you’re looking for kid-friendly trunk-or-treats or spooktacular events that are strictly 21+, there’s something for everyone in
Collierville, Germantown, and East Memphis. The JudyMac Team of Crye-Leike Realtors has put together a list of some of our favorite activities around town this month, so check it out below and get ready for lots of fright night fun and ghoulishly good times!
Looking for a free event for the whole family? Join Collierville UMC for rides, bounce houses, face painting, game truck, rock wall, obstacle course, and more! There will be a traditional trunk- or-treat, plus food trucks and craft vendors for those who want to chow down on delicious food while getting a headstart on their Christmas shopping. This is also a food drive event, with volunteers accepting food items for the Collierville Food Pantry, so don’t forget to bring a few cans or boxes of your favorite shelf-stable items!
Join Incarnation Catholic School in making lasting memories with your family at the 9th annual BOO BASH! This event is open to the whole community and admission is free. There will be a wide variety of activities for kids of all ages to enjoy, including a rock wall, video game truck, inflatable double slide, inflatable obstacle course, inflatable Jacob’s ladder, a haunted house, carnival games with plenty of prizes, kettle corn vendor, trunk-or-treat, and even a special zone just for preschoolers. For adults, there will be a silent auction, wine pull, and split-the-pot. Corky’s dinners will be available for purchase, as well as wristbands and individual tickets for games.
The Collierville Education Association has a ton of activities planned for their 2nd Annual Fall Fun Fest, which is sponsored by the Town of Collierville and Carriage Crossing. The day kicks off with an early morning 5K and family fun run, then get into full festival swing with inflatables, a petting zoo, train ride, vendors, and other activities. This year, they’ve added a pumpkin patch, pumpkin decorating contest, AND hot air balloon rides! You check out the full schedule of events here.
Who wouldn’t love a Halloween lock-in under the stars? Another “Park After Dark” event with Shelby Farms Park, Boos + Booze will be serving up spirits, spooky movies, haunted hikes, and more. Bring your own tent and prepare for paranormal encounters while enjoying your witch’s brew. Your $35 admission includes drinks, snacks, and a continental breakfast if you make it through the night! This is for 21 and over only, and due to the open bar, all participants drinking will be required to turn their keys in to staff, who will hold them overnight.
Get into the Halloween spirit early with the Horror Movie & TV Trivia night at the Flying Saucer in Cordova! If you love scary movies and creepy TV like Stranger Things, Walking dead, The Exorcist, Saw, and a whole lot more, you could win $50 per game. One starts at 7:30 p.m. with another at 10 p.m., and you’ll get 10 bonus points for each team that comes dressed in costume.
Every October, the Junior Auxiliary of Collierville partners with Main Street Collierville and the Town of Collierville to bring Scare On the Square to life. This family-friendly event is full of fun for everyone, with crafts, games, food, face painting, and trick or treating set against the scenic backdrop of the Square. Trick or treating will be from 4-5 p.m. with craft and games from 4:30-6 p.m. School supply donations will be accepted on behalf of the Collierville Municipal Schools, so bring a few items along with your little ghouls and goblins!
The 2018 Fall Fest has something for every member of the family to enjoy, whether they’re younger, older, or anywhere in between. This year’s activities will include live music, a pumpkin patch, farm animals, hay rides, a hay maze and mountain, a scarecrow contest, bounce houses, and there will even be a kiddie pedal tractor pull competition! But that’s not all. You’ll also be able to participate in pumpkin painting, a cornhole tournament, a BBQ contest, a haunted trail, and a Fairy Tale Trail courtesy of Germantown Community Theater. Local artists will be on hand, as well as various food trucks. Fall Fest offers a full day of fun for the whole community!
Get your kids in their costumes and head to the Botanic Garden for trick or treating through the Big Backyard from 5-7 p.m. Make sure you bring a blanket or chair and stick around for the movie double feature that begins at 7:15 with It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (G.) This will be followed by a viewing of Tim Burton’s creepy Corpse Bride (PG) at 7:45. Pre-show playtime for the kids will include bug-tastic treat stations and hands-on activities alongside David Rogers’ Big Bugs exhibit. Fun activities, terrific treats, photo ops, kettle corn, and food trucks: Flick-Or-Treat will have everything you need to make happy Halloween memories (including “spirits” for adults!).
The last “Park After dark” event on our list, this one is for the kids. The Shelby Farms Booffalo Bash provides parents with a safe Memphis trunk-or-treat, as well as the Booffalo Bob photo booth, nocturnal nature hikes, pumpkin painting, stories by the campfire, s’mores, food trucks, music, and more! Trunk-or-treaters will even have the option to decorate a candy carrier at the craft table before they head out for treats. Parking is free for members and $10 per car for non-members. While the trunk-or-treat, crafts, and guided hikes are also free, other activities may be subject to a small fee. All proceeds benefit the Shelby Farms Park Conservancy.
This very special event is free for people with intellectual or physical challenges and their friends and family! There will be a line-up of decorated vehicles parked in the Pickering Center parking lot and participants will be able to trick-or-treat from trunk to trunk. There will be prizes awarded for the best costume, and the best-decorated trunk, too! For more information, contact Michelle Forbert at 901-751-7638 or [email protected]
If you’re looking for something a little more laidback that’s out of the elements, check out this event at the Wolfchase Galleria! Bring your children in costume to the mall to begin trick-or-treating at 5 p.m. on Halloween night. Participating stores will have pumpkins on their windows!
